nonolingo alternatives and comparisons: which tool fits how you write

By the nonolingo team · Last updated

You are not shopping for the most famous English tool. You are shopping for the one that fits the message you have to send in the next ten minutes.

Short answer: nonolingo is a Mac app that fixes and rewrites your English inside the box you type in. It is not for everyone. Pick Grammarly or LanguageTool for classic checking, DeepL or Google Translate for translating, ChatGPT for long drafts, and a course for speaking. This page links every comparison.

How to choose

  1. What are you writing? Forty short messages a day points to an in-the-box tool. One long proposal points to a chat assistant or a full editor.
  2. Which language do you think in? If you think in Vietnamese, look for a tool that accepts it as input, not only a checker that reads English. Our note on literal translation explains why that matters.
  3. What computer do you use? nonolingo is Mac only. Windows or phone-only workers should start with the tools that list those platforms.
  4. Where does the text go? Every tool above sends text to a server to some degree. Read each privacy page. nonolingo's is here, and chat context can be turned off.
  5. What is your real goal? To learn English over months, pick a course or tutor. To send a good message now, pick a tool. Most people need both.

Pick a different tool if

  • You write long documents, reports or essays
  • You need translation of whole documents or pages
  • You work on Windows, the web or a phone
  • You want a classic rule-based grammar checker

Pick nonolingo if

  • You think in Vietnamese and write English in Slack, Gmail, Telegram or Zalo
  • Your grammar is fine but the tone sounds translated
  • You want suggestions while you type, with no copy and paste
  • You are on a Mac

Want to see it before deciding? The demo recordings show every main feature, the tone guide shows how voice is kept, and the download page has the app. Also useful: why three tabs for one sentence is the real cost.

What is nonolingo?

nonolingo is a Mac app that works inside the text box you are already typing in, such as Slack, Gmail, Telegram or Zalo. It offers a light fix that keeps your words, or a native rewrite when the sentence still sounds translated. You press Tab to accept a suggestion and esc to keep your own version.

Is nonolingo free?

Every new install gets 7 days with everything on, then a free allowance every day after that, with no card and no sign-up needed to start. A paid Pro pass is optional and nothing renews by itself. Read the pricing page for current plans, because we keep numbers there and nowhere else.

Does nonolingo work on Windows or on a phone?

No. nonolingo is a Mac app and needs macOS 14 or newer, on Apple silicon or Intel. If you work on Windows or mostly on your phone, one of the tools in the table above is the better fit, and that is a fair reason to choose something else.

Can I use nonolingo together with another tool?

Yes. Many people keep a translator or a chat assistant for big documents and use nonolingo for short messages. If you also run a grammar checker, let only one of them show suggestions in the box so two popups are not fighting over the same sentence.
